The Process
After a three year development process, the Maricopa Association of Governments completed the final plan which was approved by
the Regional Council in November 2003.
Here is a summary of the process:
2002
- July: Regional Council Appointed Transportation Policy Committee.
- October-November: Transportation Policy Committee approved consultants for Phase II development and public
outreach.
2003
- January-February: Identified and reviewed projects. Held workshops to receive early public input. Developed goals and objectives.
- March-June: Received extensive public input on draft alternatives. Transportation Town Hall conducted. Maintenance Stakeholders Group formed. Public Workshops held.
- July-September: Draft Phase of the Plan completed. Public Hearings held throughout the region.
- October: Plan tested for air quality conformity and performance.
- November: Final Regional Transportation Plan adopted.
2004
- January-February: Bill authorizing a public vote to extend the current transportation sales tax is passed by the State Legislature and signed by the Governor.
- November: Public vote November 2, 2004 on Proposition 400.
